Ì Call to Worship

Leader:  Behold! God is good, and has set a star in the heavens to guide us to the truth.

People: We follow it with joy, knowing that God will give strength to climb the hills, and

                        sight to conquer the darkness.

Leader:  Behold! God is good, and has promised us a Savior to lead us to righteousness.

All:  We await the Savior’s coming with gladness and with expectation that in

the holy birth our lives may be renewed.

Lighting of the Second Advent Candle

Leader:  Today we light the second Advent candle, the shepherds’ candle. This candle is offered in honor of the shepherds whose love and care for their sheep become the example of God’s love for us. We remember that the shepherds were the first witnesses of our Savior’s birth. In honor of all good shepherds and, especially, Jesus Christ, we light this candle.

All:  Dear God, our Good Shepherd, empower our lives to be filled with love, that in loving others we might bear witness to your love for us.  We give you thanks for shepherds, especially Jesus.   Amen.

O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him,

O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.
